DIY Recipes for Homemade Energy Bars and Snacks

For fitness enthusiasts, energy bars are an excellent snack for replenishing carbohydrates before a workout, boosting energy, enhancing fat utilization, and delaying fatigue. They're also convenient to store and carry. Beyond exercise, energy bars can help you regain strength and satisfy hunger after long work hours or staying up late.

The first thing to understand about energy bars is the raw materials used in their production. To balance nutrition and taste, energy bars typically incorporate a variety of healthy ingredients, which can be broadly categorized into six groups: whole grains, natural sweeteners, nuts and seeds, fats, eggs and dairy products, and flavorings.

Here are some recipes for reference, but feel free to customize them according to your taste preferences.

1. Oatmeal energy bars

Ingredients: 200g rolled oats, 100g walnuts, 100g almonds, 50g pine nuts, 50g white sesame seeds, 40g dried cranberries, 40g dried blueberries, 20g dried cherries, 100g butter, 100g honey.

Step 1: Spread the oatmeal and nuts on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 150°C (300°F) for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Once the oatmeal and nuts are baked and cooled, add the dried fruits and mix everything together thoroughly.

Step 3: In a pan, melt the butter and honey over low heat, then mix them together until well combined.

Step 4: Once the butter has melted, pour in the prepared oatmeal, nuts, and dried fruits, and mix all the ingredients together thoroughly.

Step 5: Line the baking sheet with parchment paper, spread the mixture evenly on the sheet, and press it down firmly to compact the ingredients before baking.

Step 6: Preheat the oven at 160 degrees, place the baking tray in the middle of the oven and bake at 160 degrees for 30 minutes. After baking, let it cool before cutting into small pieces.

2. Corn chips energy bars

Ingredients: 200g corn chips, 1 banana, half an egg, 30g of dried cranberries, 30g of raw pumpkin seeds

Step 1: Peel the banana, break it into small pieces, and place it in a bowl. Use a spatula or spoon to mash the banana until smooth.

Step 2: Add the eggs to the mashed banana and mix thoroughly until well combined.

Step 3: Gradually add the corn chips in small batches, mixing each time to ensure the chips are evenly coated with the banana-egg mixture.

Step 4: Line the baking tray with parchment paper, then pour the banana-egg-coated corn chips into the tray. Spread them out naturally without pressing too hard, leaving space between the chips to allow for proper airflow, heat dissipation, and evaporation of moisture. Sprinkle dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds on top.

Step 5: Preheat the oven, then place the baking tray inside and bake at 150°C (300°F) for about 1 hour. Adjust the baking time based on the thickness of the ingredients, the desired level of dryness, and your oven’s actual temperature.

Step 6: After baking, allow the mixture to cool slightly. It will be easier to cut into pieces while it is still warm.

3. Chocolate brownie

Ingredients: 45g oats, 40g milk, 20g butter, 40g chocolate powder, 20g honey, appropriate amount of coconut flakes, 25g milk powder

Step 1: Combine the milk and oats in a bowl and mix well.

Step 2: In a separate bowl, combine the butter, milk powder, chocolate powder, and honey, then mix well.

Step 3: Combine the contents of the two bowls and mix thoroughly.

Step 4: Spoon the mixed ingredients into small molds, then sprinkle coconut flakes and chopped nuts on top. Preheat the oven and bake for 15 minutes.

Step 5: Once the ingredients have cooled, cut them into cubes and enjoy with fresh fruits.
